One we left behind - Carrick on Suir vs Fermoy

Carrick-on-Suir RFC 21-16 Fermoy RFC

Fermoy fell short on making it two wins out of two in the league picking up a losing bonus point away to Carrick-on-Suir.  Played in less than ideal conditions the home side played with the wind in the first half, both sides were guilty of some silly penalties early in the half with Ben Twomey and the Carrick scrum half kicking three penalties each to leave the score tied 9-9 nearing the end of the half.  The home side made ground into the Fermoy half and from a ruck Fermoy were caught napping when the scrum half sniped to cross over which he converted to lead 16-9 at the break.  Now playing with the wind Eoin Lacey kept the home side on the back foot with some excellent kicks keeping the home side pinned inside their twenty-two.  Fermoy drew level when Ian Pratt touched down from a push over try which was converted by Twomey, Fermoy were now on the front foot and were awarded a penalty on the Carrick five-meter line with ten minutes remaining, instead of having a shot at goal or going for the scrum Fermoy tapped and were turned over a few phases later.  As the game neared the end Carrick broke and went wide to the winger who went on to beat three Fermoy defenders to score in the last play of the game.  It was a disappointing result when the win was there for the taking.

We now have a 3 week lay-off before our next league game at home to Scariff RFC, this will give the lads time to regroup and sort out the niggles.
